Abstract Ti 3 SiC 2 powders were successfully obtained by the molten salt method using NaCl as the flux. The influences of synthetic temperatures and flux/powders weight ratio on the phase and morphology of Ti 3 SiC 2 powders were investigated. The results indied that the synthetic temperature of Ti 3 SiC 2 was about 150 °C lower than that reported by other methods.
